Have you ever heard of earthing (also called grounding)?
I’d heard the term a few years ago, but I didn’t truly understand how powerful it could be until recently.
This August, our clinic is hosting a retreat with earthing as the central theme — so today, let me tell you what earthing is all about.
What Is Earthing?
In simple terms, it means:
Taking off your shoes and placing your bare feet on the earth.
That’s it. (Ha!)
We Run on Electricity
Our bodies are constantly generating and conducting tiny electrical signals. Some people even theorize that this electrical activity might be what Eastern medicine refers to as “ki” (life energy).
It’s invisible, but it’s the foundation of everything our bodies do:
- Your heart beats in rhythm thanks to electrical signals
- Your brain operates through brainwaves — electrical waves
- Your nerves use electrical impulses to move muscles and sense pain
Because of this, our bodies are highly susceptible to surrounding electrical influences. We hear about electromagnetic waves being harmful, but we’re also affected by static electricity and other charges every day.
These accumulated charges can disrupt the body’s electrical balance and contribute to health problems.
That’s where earthing comes in!
Earthing is said to reset your body’s electrical balance by connecting you directly to the earth.
A paper published in the medical journal Explore (Chevalier et al., 2019) highlighted these potential benefits:
- Reduction of acute and chronic inflammation
- Relief of pain (chronic pain, muscle fatigue, etc.)
- Lower stress levels (cortisol normalization)
- Improved blood flow and blood viscosity
- Better sleep, energy, and overall well-being
- Enhanced immune function and wound healing
The blood flow improvement is particularly striking — there’s even a visual demonstration by a doctor in Hawaii showing dramatic changes in blood samples before and after earthing.
And the best part? It’s completely free! (Ha!)
Earthing isn’t limited to putting your feet on the ground. You can also touch water or handle plants with your bare hands.
Summer is the perfect season to go barefoot, so it’s the easiest time to try it. Give this zero-cost health practice a shot!
Before You Visit…
Fair warning: our English is a work in progress! (Ha!)
But thanks to the magic of translation apps, we communicate just fine with patients from around the world.
Your body speaks a universal language — and that’s the one we’re fluent in.
